What is a buy-to-let mortgage?

A buy-to-let mortgage is intended for a home that you do not live in yourself but rent out. Because the Home Ownership Scheme does not apply, different tax rules and financing conditions apply.

Lenders typically calculate based on rental income and finance a lower percentage of the value than for an owner-occupied home. If you rent out a property with a standard mortgage without permission, you are acting in violation of your terms and conditions.

How much can I borrow?
Lenders typically calculate based on rental income and finance a lower percentage of the value than for an owner-occupied home. As a result, you need more of your own money.

No. A rented-out property does not fall under the owner-occupied home scheme; the interest is not deductible in Box 1.
What if the house is vacant?
